But do you really know them? Here are some <strong>typical desserts<\/strong>\u00a0end the\u00a0<strong>Christmas meal<\/strong>\u00a0on a sweet note around Europe!<\/p>\n<h2>The Christmas log<\/h2>\n<p>The ultimate Christmas dessert in France. It is <strong>also very popular<\/strong> in many <strong>French-speaking countries<\/strong> like <strong>Belgium and Switzerland<\/strong>. But <strong>did you know<\/strong> that originally the <strong>Christmas log<\/strong> was&#8230;made of wood? The tradition was that a <strong>large trunk <\/strong>was <strong>specially carefully selected<\/strong> for use in <strong>the fireplace on Christmas Eve<\/strong>. The <strong>&#8216;Christmas log&#8217;<\/strong> was thus <strong>destined<\/strong> to <strong>burn slowly throughout<\/strong> the <strong>Christmas eve night<\/strong> and it had to come from a <strong>fruit tree<\/strong> to <strong>ensure a good harvest<\/strong> in the <strong>coming year<\/strong>. During the lighting it had to be blessed was blessed by the head of the household. Nowadays it is prepared with <strong>flour, candied fruit, raisins, citrus zest, eggs<\/strong> and butter. Until 1595 the <strong>Christmas pudding<\/strong> was a <strong>porridge<\/strong> <strong>made from beef and mutton<\/strong>, with <strong>raisins<\/strong>, <strong>prunes<\/strong>, <strong>wine and spices<\/strong>. <strong>Eggs<\/strong> and <strong>breadcrumbs<\/strong> were added to give it the <strong>appearance of a pudding<\/strong> and <strong>beer and spirits<\/strong> to add flavor. It was during the Victorian era that it became a <strong>sweet preparation<\/strong> when <strong>the meat was removed<\/strong> from the recipe to add sugar and brandy.
